Irritation - Granulation

Well...Alexandria's skin irritation turned out to be skin granulation. Many babies with g-tubes have this granulation on and off. It is treated by a cream at home or by a stronger solution at the doctor's office if the granulation gets big enough. The granulation is simply the child's body saying 'this hole is not supposed to be here let's fix it up' and then going on overload with growing skin tissue around the stoma. The granulation is very vascular so it bleeds easily and it can be tender if touched or bumped. Alex has it on one side under the button and since I noticed it and addressed it before it got too big it should not be a problem for me to get rid of it by treating it at home. Alex is healing well and gaining weight well. She is now 17.4 lbs! We have our initial appointment with a Child Psychologist from the Feeding Team tomorrow. She will observe Alexandria's reactions to being fed and hopefully will give us some in site and tips as to how we can work with Alex on her feeding issues. So basically, the Psychologist will be addressing the behavioral part of the feeding issue and the rest of the Feeding Team will individually address the things they have expertise in. We have a long road ahead of us...but we are working on it and I am happy for the provision of such a good hospital and medical experts. On Monday we have an appointment for a kidney/bladder ultrasound and a follow up with the urologist. That is the latest and greatest for today. Have a good night. :)
